Rene Daumal

March 16, 1908 – May 21, 1944

“Each time dawn appears, the mystery is there in entirety.”

Who was Rene Daumal? What did he do? One could say he
was a poet. a philosopher. a writer and that would certainly seem enough.
But he was also a mountain climber, an upstart. a musician and that too
would be enough. but the lesser known fact looms largest and is the most
fantastic and least examined of all his accomplishments. He was also
an angel. It is hard to believe but it is true. He was noted in certain
vague though voluminous ecclesiastic works as the ‘laughing angel’.

As the laughing angel he openly challenged the great surrealist leaders.
He punished his body with horrific experiments with carbon tetrachloride.
He taught himself sanskrit and translated the Tripitaka Buddhist in French.
He penned the masterpiece A Night of Serious Drinking which can be found
in every sewer in heaven. As he lay dying he was laying out the history
of the human condition in the form of a small miracle of humor -Mount Analogue:
A Novel of Symbolically Authentic Non Euclidian Adventures in Mountain Climbing.

He had a very nice wife named Vera. They were very poor. He never used
his heavenly connections to better his life. He did a good job during his small
visit to earth.
